Eraring Battery Storage System
Projects Eraring Battery Energy Storage System
Robson Civil Projects was engaged by Enerven to deliver civil works for a greenfield Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) designed to stabilise grid supply for the Eraring Power Station. The project involved the delivery of a large‑scale, grid‑connected BESS on vacant land adjacent to the existing power station, supporting the ongoing energy transition.
Robson’s scope included bulk earthworks, stormwater and drainage, and pavement and kerbing works for a 700MW / 2,800MWh BESS, delivered in two stages: Stage 1 (460MW / 1,073MWh) and future Stage 2 (240MW / 1,030MWh).
Working closely with Enerven, Origin and other project stakeholders, Robson adopted a flexible and collaborative delivery approach.
To support the overall project program, works were carefully planned and resequenced where required, enabling ongoing access and the progressive installation of battery units. This staged and adaptive methodology ensured that critical battery installation and commissioning milestones were maintained, while supporting parallel activities across the site.
The Eraring BESS project demonstrates Robson’s capability to deliver complex civil works for major energy infrastructure projects, underpinned by close client collaboration, proactive planning and adaptive delivery
Highlights
- The scope of works were increased to include the civil foundation works for a 330/33kV Transgrid substation adjacent to the BESS facility.
- With wetter than average ground conditions, the incorporation of lime stabilisation has greatly promoted the program allowing subsequent pavement activities to follow.
- Substantially large pavement areas placed concurrently with fleet of placement tools.
- Introduction of specialised water treatment system required to treat site water.
