Brian Ward 40-year Anniversary at Robson Civil Projects!

Congratulations to Brian Ward on your 40-year anniversary with Robson Civil Projects!

Brian started in 1984 as a Chainman, assisting Robson’s only Surveyor, Peter Ward, who just happened to be his brother!

It was after failing the maths and physics subjects in his first year of a Civil Engineering degree, that Brian’s journey with Robson started.

Brian recalls “Peter said to me … you need a job, and I need a chainman, come and work with me”.

Brian spent 4 years as a survey chainman (field hand). He completed his Civil Engineering Certificate (part time) and was then promoted to Site Manager, supervising project construction for 15 years, during which time he increased his civil works knowledge and completed his Civil Diploma.

In 2003 Brian moved into the role of Quantity Surveyor (QS), measuring earthwork volumes, pavement, drainage, utilities, structure quantities and writing bills of quantities for tenders.

Brian also prepares 3d digital surface models for construction GPS machine control.

“There was a bit of steep a learning curve with the GPS and Surveying software. It’s very rewarding though, to create modelling that helps our teams better understand and construct projects” says Brian.

Brian additionally enjoys passing on his knowledge in QS to undergraduate engineers and has notched up an impressive 17 years of mentoring under his belt.

When asked about the things he’s thankful for during his 40-year tenure, Brian tells us:

“My brother, for his work ethic, his patience in teaching me and just being an inspiration.

For the guys on my first job as Site Manager that taught me how to treat people when supervising; I have held onto that my whole career.

For the generosity of the Robson family and providing a workplace that’s encouraging, appreciative, flexible and challenging”.

Thank you for your 40 years’ service Brian. We appreciate you and hope you enjoy your gift.
