Upgrade of Sparks Road

Woongarrah, NSW

This project carried out for Roads and Maritime Services is situated between Virginia Road and Hiawatha Road on Sparks Road in Warnervale, NSW.

Works on this busy section of Central Coast roads infrastructure required the implementation of significant traffic management measures. 

Project duration was 16 months with construction costs valued at circa $13m.

Scope of Work

  • A new signalised intersection for the Warnervale Town Centre access road
  • Construction of existing 1.2 kilometres of roadway to a median separated dual carriageway standard
  • Upgraded signalised intersection at Mary Mackillop School
  • Construction of 310 metres of retaining walls (up to 4.5m in height)

Gillieston Heights Intersection Upgrade

Maitland, NSW

Construction of 100-lot subdivision and intersection upgrade for Mirvac Pty Ltd.

Project duration of 18 months at a value of $8m.

Scope of Work

  • Major intersection upgrade and construction of 800 metres of dual lane heavy duty road pavement including new traffic signals and major utility relocations
  • Installation of traffic signals and street lights 
  • Construction of all roads and installation of services
  • Major utility relocation for high pressure gas, electrical and water mains
  • Underboring of roads for stormwater and sewer mains
  • 2.5km of lead in water mains (300mm diameter)
  • Construction of two large wetland ponds with controlled water level pits

  • Major earthworks carried out in conjunction with Aboriginal heritage issues
  • Construction of large water quality ponds in an environmentally sensitive location
  • Construction of recycled water mains as part of subdivision works

Broke Road

Pokolbin, NSW

Construction of North and South shoulder with a new centre line alignment extending carriageway width to 11m wide for Cessnock City Council.

Project duration of 5 months at a value of $2m.

Scope of Work

  • Mill and remove existing seal on existing carriageway 7.0m with crossfall corrections
  • Place and compact 350mm Steelstone base
  • Finish with twocoat seal and AC wearing surface
  • Subsoil, dishdrain and stormwater drainage

Project Highlights

  • Project delivered with minimal disruption to traffic flow for busy tourist gateway and also without impact on neighbouring businesses.

Southern Road Connection

Greystanes, NSW

Road works and Bridge construction on Reconciliation Road and the Parramatta to Liverpool Transit way (PTL) for Boral associated with the redevelopment of the old Prospect Quarry.

Project duration of 20 months at a value of $15m.

The PLT, bridge and road construction was carried out adjacent to fragile Sydney Water assets where onerous vibration restrictions were placed on works in the area to mitigate risk of damage to critical infrastructure. Project delivered on time to the satisfaction of asset owner with no damage to the asset.

Scope of Work

  • Raising of the existing Parramatta to Liverpool Transit Way bridge by up to 2 metres
  • Construction of 20m span bridge over an existing critical water main service
  • 1.2km of new roads and drainage
  • New Signalised intersection
  • Installation of services; electrical, water, communication

Project Highlights

  • Project required significant planning and co-ordination owing to the fact that within the scope of works boundaries were 3 separate certifying bodies: Roads and Maritime Services (RTA at the time) for the PLT, Holroyd City Council to the north of the PLT and Blacktown City Council to the south. All works were completed and certified to the varying specifications within program and budget.
  • Construction of 2 mid-bridge headstocks with bored cast in-situ piles within the floodplain of Prospect Creek with no environmental impacts or incidents.
  • Co-ordination and installation of 74 off bridge beams using a 350 ton mobile crane on 3 separate constructed crane pads to program and budget.

Link Road

Warnervale, NSW

Construction of 1.7km road to RMS specifications for Wyong Shire Council.

Liaison with several external parties including the RMS, NSW Public Works as Project Manager and designer Aurecon, was paramount to the successful and timely delivery. 

Project duration of 12 months at a value of $11m.

Scope of Work

  • 2 x traffic light signalized intersection
  • Reconstruction and widening of Sparks Road under traffic
  • 42000m³ bulk earthworks
  • Stormwater drainage, box culverts, subsoil drainage 
  • Pavement construction (heavily bound with AC wearing course)
  • Guardrail                  
  • Concreting works               
  • Major Service and Utility relocations and adjustments including high pressure Gas, Electricity, Watermains and Telecommunications.

Project Highlights

  • Successful delivery 4 months ahead of the approved due date for completion, working in constrained environment due to existence of several utilities including 600mm diameter watermain, high pressure gas main plus optic fibre cabling.
  • High percentage of works were performed under intensive traffic conditions with very minimal effect to traffic flow or the local community.

Top Ryde City Access Roads & Tunnelling

Ryde, NSW

Regarded as one of the country’s largest retail redevelopments spanning 3.5 hectares, Robson undertook bulk excavations and construction of access roads and three vehicular tunnels for Bovis Lend Lease.

Project duration of 20 months at a value of $22m.

Scope of Work

  • Construction of 3 access tunnels into the redeveloped shopping centre using a roadheader 
  • Construction of the cut and cover structure including piling and structural concrete works.
  • Excavation under the cut and cover structure using a  roadheader
  • Roadworks including the construction of a new slip lane to Blaxland Road
  • Traffic signal works
  • Traffic switches to facilitate different stages of the works
  • Perimeter road and kerb works around the shopping centre

Project Highlights

  • Community liaison was carried out in conjunction with the client as the site was adjacent to multiple offices and schools.
